I'm not sure that the ultrasonic sensors (which basically send out a sound pulse and wait for it to return) will work like that. Assuming they send at different times, the sensor won't be expecting a return pulse and will probably ignore it (if it comes from another Arduino). – Nick Gammon ♦ Aug 31 '20 at 6:09
The ultrasonic sensor sends 8 pulses of 40KHz via the trig terminals (inaudible to humans, it's ultrasounds). The ultrasonic pulses collide an object and leaves in the other direction.* The echo terminals receives the ultrasound pulses and the sensor calculates the distance based on the time of the pulses.
If you are using a 4-pin ultrasonic sensor, the normally closed pin (NC) is wired to ground. You can place the ultrasonic sensor as shown on the breadboard and with jumper wires complete the wiring to the Arduino. Ultrasonic sensors emit ultrasonic pulses, and by measuring the time of ultrasonic pulse reaches the object and back to the transducer, the distance of sensor from the target object is calculated. They are widely used in detecting displacement, thickness, distance, water level, material level and transparent objects. Arduino ultrasonic distance sensors are very much in demand in robotics projects because of their relative simplicity, sufficient accuracy, and availability. They can be used as devices to help you avoid obstacles, get the dimensions of objects, simulate a room map, and signal objects’ approach or distance.
Most of us use it for level/distance measurement while some use it to detect an obstacle in front. What most of us don’t know is that there is an underlying flaw with the ultrasonic sensor, particularly on the first application I mentioned (level/distance measurement). In this tutorial you learn how to use the ultrasonic distance sensor HC-SR04 to measure the distance between the sensor and an object. You learn how ultrasonic works in general, the wiring between the HC-SR04 module and different Arduino, ESP8266 and ESP32 microcontroller boards and how to program the code to measure the distance. 2019-09-26 · The ground pin of the ultrasonic sensor goes into the Arduino’s ground pin female header.

Ultrasonic sensors work by emitting sound waves at a frequency too high for humans to hear. They then wait for the sound to be reflected back, calculating distance based on the time required. This is similar to how radar measures the time it takes a radio wave to return after hitting an object.
